Batik is a form of wax-resistant dyeing that is applied to a cloth. Traditionally, the process begins with the creator drawing lines of the resist. Once the applied wax dries up, the artisan soaks the fabric in a choice-able colour to get the look.

Batik was initially practiced in China as early as the Sui Dynasty (AD581 – 618). The history of Indian batik traced back to 1st century AD. During that period, Khatri community people of Gujarat were the only set of artisans for this Batik art.
